Continue along with Harty Realty Group as we highlight Chicago area communities that we help buyers find homes in. Today, let’s talk about Palatine, IL! Palatine is located 30 miles northwest of Chicago in the Northwest Suburbs. As of the 2010 census, the population was 68,557, which made it the 18th largest community in Illinois. Still, it encompasses a small-town community feel and beautiful homes.
The first settler in Palatine built a log cabin that is now called Deer Grove. The village was founded in 1866 and was built around a station on the Chicago and North Western Railway. While Palatine is home to a thriving downtown area, full of commerce, sidewalk cafes and unique retailers, it is also home to wooded marshland, several streams and parks.
The school system in Palatine is renowned and has won several awards, including the Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award, which few schools in the nation have been rewarded with. There are 10 elementary schools, three junior high schools, three private schools, three high schools and one college.
Residents in Palatine enjoy a robust park district, with amenities and programs for all ages. During the summer months, Palatine residents enjoy swimming pools at Family Aquatic Center, Birchwood and Eagle, and recreational centers year-round at Community Center, Birchwood and Falcon Park.
Renowned community events include the Palatine Jaycees Hometown Fest, which includes a parade, fireworks, a carnival, a bags tournament and more. Street Fest is another popular event in August, which includes numerous food vendors in the streets of Downtown Palatine, along with music, games and other activities. Every Saturday during the summer, head to the farmer’s market at the Palatine Train Station Parking Lot from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summer is a great season for relocating to Palatine, IL!
If you think the homes in Palatine look beautiful, you’re right! Homeowners really take pride of ownership. This is especially true through the Hometown Pride Award. This is a contest that honors Palatine homes with the best curb appeal and landscaping.
If you commute to Chicago for work or play, enjoy the convenience of a Metra rail station, along with easy access to expressways that lead into or away from the city.
